Leo’s ‘Outstanding Achievement’ recognised at presentation

A Kinmel Bay resident who has championed the need for ‘suitable, safe and secure housing’ across North and Mid Wales has come third overall in the whole of Wales  in  the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award at this year’s TPAS Participation Awards.

Leo Farrell was nominated for the ‘Ruth Radley Outstanding Award in Participation’ by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association in recognition of his huge contribution to striving for continuous improvements in the housing sector and his determination to make a difference to housing services across the region.

Leo, who is a home-owner in Kinmel Bay under Clwyd Alyn’s Shared Ownership Scheme, has volunteered as a ‘Quality Partner’ with the Association since 2007, where residents are trained to audit and inspect landlord services.

“Leo is very popular among colleagues and is extremely diligent and hard-working when it comes to ensuring that the residents’ perspective is heard,” said Gareth Hughes-Roberts, Community Involvement Officer for Clwyd Alyn, speaking after the awards ceremony held in Cardiff earlier this month.

“It’s brilliant that Leo came third in the whole of Wales for this award which recognises that his contribution and commitment to tenant participation and involvement is superb,” Gareth added.

Louise Blackwell, Community Development Officer added: ”Leo’s dedication to volunteering is second to none, and it is a tribute to the difference his commitment makes to the lives of others that he has been named as a runner-up of this national award.

“He’s made a massive positive impact both in his own local area and throughout the region,” added Louise who said Leo has taken part in a ‘sky dive’ and walked over hot coals to raise funds for St Kentigern’s Hospice in St Asaph, and he’s abseiled down the Royal Hospital Building in Liverpool and taken part in a sponsored zip slide event to raise funds for the Linda McCartney Centre, a specialist centre for cancer services in Liverpool.

Leo Farrell from Kinmel Bay receives his award from Jen Barfoot, from sponsors Jen Tai Calon Community Housing at the TPAS Cymru Participation Awards held in Cardiff earlier this month.
